PANAJI: Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar has criticised Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar’s recent statement on the Mhadei river dispute, terming it unrealistic and misleading.
Kerkar said that while Karnataka continues its efforts to divert Mhadei waters through the Kalsa-Bhandura project, statements on the issue should be made only after thoroughly examining official documents and the situation on the ground.
He stressed that the Mhadei issue is a sensitive matter involving Goa’s water security and environmental interests, and therefore requires careful scrutiny of developments and official records.
Kerkar urged the Water Resources Minister to study the relevant documents and assess the actual ground situation before making public statements on the diversion of Mhadei waters.
He maintained that any developments concerning the Kalsa-Bhandura project need to be closely monitored and addressed in the larger interest of protecting Goa’s share of Mhadei water
