PANAJI: Minister for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Nilkanth Halarnkar informed that the estimated Milk Production in the State is around 1.65 Lakh litres per day as per Integrated Sample Survey (ISS).
“The estimated Milk Production in the State is around 1.65 Lakh litres per day as per Integrated Sample Survey (ISS); The daily requirement of milk in the State is Around 4.00 Lakh litres per day Approximately,” said Halarnkar
He further said that the support price of the milk being given to the dairy farmers by Goa dairy is NIL. However, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services gives the composite subsidy 40% (incentive on milk 32.28% & cattle feed 7.72%) under the Revised Scheme for Incentive to Milk Producer.
“The Goa Milk Union is procuring on an average 54,274 Ltrs on milk per day from its member Dairy Co-operative Societies (DCS),” he added
The minister said that there is no plan at the moment to increase the support price on milk in the State.
He said that the farmers are paid the price for the milk poured into the Dairy Society forthnightly through respective dairy societies under Goa Dairy/SUMUL. Government provides incentives at the rate of 40% on the value of the milk, after procuring statement of milk poured from the respective societies/ Bachat Gat every quarter of the year
“The payment of the incentive on monthly basis will be possible when all the primary Dairy Society in the entire state are installed with the Automatic milking unit (Machine) and the bills which are auto generated are submitted to the Department for payment on a monthly basis,” he said
Minister said that in case the Goa Dairy are installing the Automatic milking (Unit) Machine for all the societies the same can be done immediately.
