PANAJI: Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik has warned of stern action against those importing cashew nuts from other countries and selling them in the State as Goa cashew nuts.
Now that cashew nuts from Africa are being imported and marketed in Goa, travellers who bring these treats home to share with friends and family are aware that they are being conned.
The State would take harsh action against individuals who bring in cashew nuts from foreign nations and sell them as Goa cashew nuts, the State’s Agriculture Minister Ravi Naikon warned on Wednesday.
Naik claimed that he had already instructed the Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs inspectors to undertake searches on anyone discovered to be involved in the misbranding of Goa cashew nuts.
Some individuals import raw cashew nuts from African nations, process them locally, and then market them as Goa cashew nuts. Because they are unfamiliar with genuine Goan cashew nuts, travellers that visit the State buy these nuts. Stopping the misbranding of Goa cashew nuts is necessary, according to Naik
