New Delhi: Mirabai Chanu delivered a dominant performance to win India’s first gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, rewriting the record books in the women’s 48kg weightlifting competition in Glasgow.
The Olympic silver medallist overcame an early setback to finish on top of the podium with a combined lift of 190kg, setting multiple Commonwealth Games records on her way to another memorable international triumph.
Mirabai began the snatch event with a failed attempt at 82kg but bounced back immediately by clearing the weight on her second lift. She then successfully lifted 85kg on her final attempt, establishing a new Commonwealth Games record and taking the lead after the snatch discipline.
