PIRNA: A 47-year-old labourer who had been reported missing was found dead in the Chapora River at Thorli Chanai, Pirna, on Saturday night.
According to Colvale Police, the unidentified death case was registered at 9.26 pm on July 4, 2026, after police received information that a man’s body was floating in the Chapora River at Thorli Chanai, Pirna.
Police personnel, along with local residents, recovered the body from the river. The deceased was identified as Tukaram Laxman Gavade (47), originally from Belagavi, Karnataka, who was residing in a rented room at Thorli Chanai, Pirna, where he worked as a labourer.
Police said Gavade had been missing since July 3, and a missing person report had already been registered at Colvale Police Station on July 4.
During the inquiry, police learnt that the deceased was allegedly addicted to alcohol and is suspected to have accidentally fallen into the river, located close to his rented accommodation, after stepping out at night.
An inquest and scene panchanama were conducted, and the body was initially shifted to the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa, before being sent to the GMC morgue at Bambolim for preservation.
Police said no foul play is suspected in the death. Further inquiry is being conducted by PSI Dattaraj Rane of Colvale Police Station.
