MARGAO: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) today has assured the Chicken vendors that their slaughter waste would be disposed of immediately.
Chicken vendors from Margao today met the MMC CO over the delay in collection of slaughter waste for the last 3-4 days.
“We have appointed a contractor who collects slaughter waste from vendors as we do not have the machinery. But as per vendors, the contractor has not collected the waste,” said MMC CO.
He further said that waste would be collected today on an immediate basis.
“We don’t have the mechanism to dispose of such waste that is why the contract is given for the collection of waste from Margao and Vasco,” he said.
The CO said that instructions have been given and the waste will be collected today.
Recently, the Margao Municipal Council has not collected the waste generated by the pork sellers for the last four days, forcing the sellers to dispose of the waste in pits.
Fears have been raised in certain quarters that a delay in lifting the pig slaughter waste may lead to further problems for the MMC.
