CANACONA – A Mother-Daughter duo missing Sunday was found dead at Tamnem in Loliem-Polem village.
According to police, Maya Anand Pagi, 50, and her married daughter Ankita Prakash Polgi, 26, were found missing from their residence at Tamnem, while residents launched a search late Sunday evening.
Daughter Ankita’s body was fished out from a pond nearby to their house late Sunday evening and sent for preservation to Margao, while her mother Maya’s dead body was found hanging to a tree in nearby bushes 500 meters away from the Pond where her daughter’s body was found early Monday morning. Ankita, staying at Navelim, had come to her maternal home to take care of her ailing father.
The missing of both mother and daughter duo came to light reportedly after some relatives had visited the house where Maya’s husband, Anand. He is unwell after suffering a stroke recently.
When both were found missing, a massive search was launched late Sunday evening, and police and fire-services personnel found the body of Ankita in the nearby pond. Police suspect Ankita, apparently gone to answer nature call, has accidentally fallen in the pond and drowned.
After the whole night search proved futile, someone’ noticed the body of Maya hanging to a tree with fishnet(nylon) in the nearby bushes.
Canacona LPSI Rifa Barretto informed the 50-year-old woman reportedly not keeping in sound mind is suspected of having committed suicide. However, the postmortem will reveal the exact cause.
While the mother’s body will be handed over later in the day, Investigating Officer informs the Daughters’ body who was married at Navelim and her husband is expected to return, will be kept in the morgue.
