PANAJI: Reacting to the Ponda and Sankhali Municipal Poll results, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar said that his party accepts the mandate of the People.
“We accept the mandate of the People. Elected representatives should work for the people and take issues that are pending for a long,” said Patkar
He further said that Municipal elections were not fought in the party line then why should BJP needs put Congress vs BJP in the election result?.
“Why there were no names of the other party? Voters in Sanquelim and Ponda Municipal elections were pressurized, we accept the mandate of the People.” he added
Patkar said that elected representatives should work for the people and take issues that are pending for a long.
BJP-backed candidates won the majority in two municipal councils – Ponda and Sanquelim – in Goa Sunday.
Although the elections to the two councils were not fought on party lines, some candidates received the backing of political parties.
In Sanquelim, the home turf of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the BJP-backed panel won 11 out of 12 seats, while one candidate affiliated with the Congress was elected unopposed. In Ponda, out of 15 seats, the candidates supported by the BJP won 11 seats while four other candidates won the remaining seats.
