PANAJI: A road accident reported near Campal in Panaji has turned fatal after the scooter rider succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, police sources said.
According to the complaint, the accident occurred on May 28, 2026, at around 10:43 am near Pinto House Junction, close to the Military Hospital area at Campal.
Police stated that a white Hyundai Creta bearing registration number GA-07-P-6245, allegedly driven by 76-year-old Francisco Xavier N. Santana Fernandes of St Inez, was travelling from the Directorate of Health Services side towards Dr. Braganza Pereira Road when it reportedly collided with a Suzuki Access scooter (GA-07-AA-1954) near the 18th June Road junction.
The scooter was being ridden by Fausto Rodrigues, 60, a musician from Miramar, while his wife, Maria Rodrigues, 55, was travelling as a pillion rider. Both sustained serious injuries in the collision and were rushed for medical treatment.
Police later confirmed that Fausto Rodrigues succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Maria Rodrigues continues to receive medical care.
An offence has been registered by Goa Police, and further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is in progress.
