NAVELIM: A case of alleged online fraud has been registered following a complaint by Aloysius Barretto of Navelim, Salcete, who claimed that he was cheated of Rs 1,46,361 through fraudulent transactions on Telegram.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred between August 7 and August 8, 2026, at TNK, Navelim.
Police said that unknown accused persons allegedly contacted Barretto through Telegram and fraudulently induced him to make several payments through UPI transactions on the pretext of providing certain services.
Believing the representations made by the accused to be genuine, the complainant allegedly made multiple UPI payments amounting to Rs 1,46,361.
However, the promised services were allegedly not provided, and the money paid by the complainant was also not refunded, resulting in wrongful loss to him.
Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Sanjay Velip of Margao Town Police Station.
