Its mandatory that all New tourist vehicle, Rent a Cab & Rent a Bike shall be EV from Jan, 2024, says CM

PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that Government of Goa formulated the Goa Electric Mobility Promotion Policy, 2021 with the vision to establish Goa as a model of International Standards for Electric Vehicle adoption across passenger and commercial segments, supported by a world-class charging infrastructure and eco-system.
“The Government of Goa formulated the Goa Electric Mobility Promotion Policy, 2021 with the vision to establish Goa as a model of International Standards for Electric Vehicle adoption across passenger and commercial segments, supported by a world-class charging infrastructure and eco-system,” said Sawant.
He further said that the major objectives of the Policy are · 30% of annual vehicles registered in Goa, starting from the year 2025, would be electric.
“To promote conversion of ICE Vehicles to EV · To convert 50% of all boat ferries to electric by 2025 and other marine vessels such as fishing trawlers into Hybrid. · To create 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in the sector by 2025,” he added.
Sawant said that the policy also lays emphasis to encourage start-ups, micro, small and medium enterprises, to promote R&D, provide Financial incentives and to establish a wide network of charging stations across the State.
“The State Goa also formulated the Goa EV Concessional Charging Infrastructure Policy, 2021 for encouraging the setting up of EV Charging stations in the State of Goa. Under the policy, the State Government would provide Government land for setting up of EV station and provide electrical infrastructure support up to Rs. 8 lakhs to the facility provider,” he added.
CM said that the State Government has also notified the Green Cess Act, 2013, thereby levying a cess on 0.5% fossil fuels to fund all the initiatives to reduce carbon emissions. The State Government is committed for promotion of EV vehicles in the State of Goa. The existing schemes will be amended from time to time to ensure higher utilization of EV vehicles.
“It will be made mandatory that all New tourist vehicle, Rent a Cab and Rent a Bike shall be EV from January, 2024. 2. New Government Light Motor Vehicles purchased from January 2024 will mandatorily be EVs 3. It will also be mandatory for permit holders having multiple tourist taxis, rent a bike and rent a cab operator to retrofit 30% of the fleet to EV by June, 2024,” he added.
