CANACONA: Thousands of devotees along with Mahajan welcomed the new Silver Utsavmurthi of Shree Mallikarjun Dev before installing the same in the Shristhal Temple in a grand ceremony on Sunday.
Interestingly, as expected, the Silver Idol designed and prepared by Goldsmith from Belgaum, reached Char-Rasta before the time at 10 am and from there it was taken in a procession to the Shri Mallikarjuna Temple, Shristhal –Canacona.
The Utsavmurthi was placed in a colourfully decorated vehicle with flowers and in a procession joined by thousands of devotees and Mahajans, amidst featuring of traditional bands (Vajantri), Dindi, Lazim, Dholtashe was ceremoniously taken to the temple.
Suhasini took Aarti off the idol, as the vehicle made brief halts at a few places including Nagarcem, Chaudi, Khalwade and Vadamoll.
The event concluded with the idol’s installation in the temple replacing the old murti (idol) normally taken out every Monday and on various festive occasions. Later, a communal Mahaprasad feast was observed, and mahaprasad was distributed to all the participating devotees.
