PANAJI: Food safety authorities have ordered the suspension of operations at nine food establishments across Goa after detecting serious hygiene violations during an intensified statewide enforcement drive.
The inspections, conducted across Bardez, Tiswadi and Salcete, covered restaurants, retailers, food vending establishments, manufacturing units and food transporters.
In Bardez alone, officials inspected 23 establishments and directed seven to suspend operations due to major hygiene lapses. In Bambolim and Panaji, five additional units were inspected, with two more establishments ordered to suspend operations. One repeat offender was booked, while a ₹5,000 penalty was imposed after cooking oil tests revealed excessive Total Polar Compounds (TPC) levels. Minor violations were addressed through improvement notices.
In Salcete, authorities took action against unhygienic samosa manufacturing units and a restaurant, imposing penalties for food safety violations.
A complaint-based inspection at an Instamart outlet also led to directions for the immediate segregation of expired food products, while surveillance samples of milk were collected from a transporter for laboratory quality analysis.
Officials said enforcement and surveillance drives will continue across Goa with zero tolerance for violations that compromise food safety and public health.
