VASCO: No-Confidence Motion against Shradha A. Mahale Vice Chairperson of Mormugao Municipal Council under section 56 of The Goa Municipalities Act was moved by 15 councillors out of 25 councillors on Monday. Mahale tendered resignation from her position on Tuesday.
Former MMC chairperson Deepak Naik along with 14 other councillors of the Mormugao Municipal Council, moved a NO CONFIDENCE MOTION against Shradha A. Mahale, Vice-Chairperson, Mormugao Municipal Council. In a letter addressed to the director of Municipal Administration, councillors have mentioned that they have lost confidence in the Vice-Chairperson Shradha Mahale, stating that she has failed to take the councillors into confidence in the matter pertaining to the MMC.
Further, the group of councillors have requested to convene a special meeting of the Councilors of the Mormugao Municipal Council at the earliest to decide upon the NO CONFIDENCE MOTION.
It may be recalled that the MMC vice-chairperson Shradha Mahale is a supporter of Ex MLA of Vasco Carlos Almeida. She has held the position of Vice-Chairperson of MMC since last year’s municipal election results. The defeat of Ex MLA Carlos Almeida against Krishna (Daji)Salkar has also brought a stir in the municipal council level. It is most likely that other committees of the Mormugao municipal council will see some changes.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Shradha Mahale tendered her resignation to the Director of Municipal Administration before the No-Confidence Motion against her could pass.
She told reporters that she has done her duty sincerely in her 10-month term as a Vice-Chairperson of MMC. Mahale also pointed out that behind the No-Confidence Motion against her is a political move by the newly elected Vasco MLA. Although she has praised the councillors and Council for the support, she was given by the council members.
