New Delhi: India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval strongly raised the issue of terrorism at a major international security gathering in Moscow, using the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir to underline the urgent need for a united global response against extremist violence.
Addressing the first International Security Forum and the 14th Meeting of High Representatives for Security Matters, Doval said terrorism continues to pose one of the gravest threats to international peace and stability. The conference, hosted by Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu, brought together senior security officials from several nations to discuss emerging geopolitical and security challenges in a rapidly evolving multipolar world.
Referring to the Pahalgam attack that claimed the lives of 26 tourists, Doval said the assault was carried out by Pakistan backed terrorists targeting innocent civilians. He stressed that the global fight against terrorism cannot succeed if nations adopt selective approaches or inconsistent policies while dealing with terror networks and their supporters.
Calling for stronger international cooperation, Doval stated that countries must take a firm stand against terrorism without ambiguity. He emphasized that the world must collectively support genuine counter terror efforts rather than tolerate or indirectly back forces linked to extremist activities.
The NSA reiterated India’s commitment to combating terrorism and said New Delhi would continue close coordination with Russia on regional and international security concerns. He also expressed appreciation to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian authorities for condemning the Pahalgam attack and standing in solidarity with India.
Highlighting the strategic partnership between India and Russia, Doval described bilateral ties as deep rooted and increasingly significant amid shifting global power dynamics. He also pointed to growing concerns over maritime security, stressing the importance of ensuring safe navigation through key international routes such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea during ongoing tensions in West Asia.
On the sidelines of the forum, Doval is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with international counterparts on regional security and strategic cooperation.
