PANAJI: Believe it or not, the Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane has told the Goa Assembly that there is no flow of leachete in surrounding areas at Sonsodo.
Rane was replying to question tabled by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco, who wanted to know the status of leachete tanks construction.
Vishwajit replied, “Margao Municipal Council is collecting segregated waste i.e. wet and dry waste separately from the jurisdiction of Margao Municipal Jurisdiction”.
He said the total wet waste collected is about 35 tons per day.
“Out of the 35 tons of wet waste, 5 TPD of wet waste is being treated at Bio-Methanation Plant at SGPDA Market, Fatorda and the remaining wet waste is being transported to waste treatment facility at Saligao,” he said.
Further, he said, MMC has constructed three of leachate collection tanks at Sonsodo site, in which the leachate is being collected.
“The construction of remaining two leachate collection tanks is in progress. There is no flow of leachate into the surrounding area from the sonsodo site,” he said.
He said work includes construction of five leachate collection tanks with other works such as construction of road, plinth wall etc.
“Presently, three of leachate collection tank are completed and the leachate is being collected in the said tanks. The construction work of the remaining two leachate collection tanks is in progress,” he said.
On current status on the work of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), he said, the said plant will be constructed by GSUDA under SBM funds.
