MARGAO: Close on the heels of the controversial real estate development at the Old Goa
heritage site, it looks that the BJP government is all out to provide clearances to a multi-crore mega real estate project at Cancanamoddi Hillock in Cuncolim constituency
Addressing the media, Congress leader and GPCC General Secretary Yuri
Alemao said that the government and the TCP has not learnt any lesson and continue to be pathological violators.
Yuri further said that the builder mafia lobby involved in the mega project is desperately trying to topple the ruling Congress
dispensation in Cuncolim Municipal Council to make smooth acess for getting
required permissions from Cuncolim Muncipal council.
Giving full account of the developments, Yuri said that in July this year concerned Citizens of Cuncolim had filed complaints against the illegal hillcutting.
The Cuncolim Municipal Council had issued the stop work order and a joint inspection with TCP officials was requested. At this inspection the TCP officer was arrogant and brazen stating that the Cancanamoddi Hillock is not a Hill.
The TCP has now issued a fresh Technical Clearance on November 22. Yuri further stated that the interests involved are of of BJP Ministers and the MLA
including that of TCP Minister.
Yuri warned that the people of Cuncolim and the Congress party workers will oppose the illegal hill cutting and reposed full faith in “Rakhondar Aajo” of the hillock site to provide strength to the people in their struggle to protect the natural resource.
Yuri Alemao also advised all the elected councillors irrespective of
political affiliations to stand firm and together on issue of Cancanamoddi hillock as destruction of the hill will damage the ecology of the place, the surroundings and eventually destroy the Water Aquifer at the bottom of hill. It is priceless resource and heritage where all should sink political differences, said Yuri and criticised the local MLA for his silence.
