PANAJI: The North Goa Comunidads administrators have officially withdrawn the NOC previously issued to Abdul Rehman Latif Shaikh for the mutation of approximately 4.10 lakh square meters of Kamurli Comunidad land.
This decision follows strong objections raised by local communities and villagers, who filed complaints with government agencies, expressing concerns over the land’s potential misuse and impact on the community.
The withdrawal marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts by local stakeholders to safeguard communal land rights and ensure transparency in land transactions in the region.
Community members and local villagers expressed their disapproval of the NOC, citing the fact that Abdul Rehman does not live in Camurlim.
They demanded that the NOC be cancelled in complaints they sent to the chief minister and other government offices.
Administrator Pandurang Gad claims that the NOC was granted without first obtaining government clearance.
He pointed out that a 2023 government circular mandates that these applications be handled by the tax department, most especially by the collector.
Additionally, the administrator noted that the Communidade Code does not permit issuing such NOCS or allowing non-members to be included on territory owned by the community.
The Camurlim community asserted that they were not consulted in the decision and that Abdul Rehman was not a gaonkar of the community.
