PANAJI: The District Magistrate of North Goa has imposed a cumulative penalty of Rs 5.6 lakh on five food business operators for allegedly selling misbranded and sub-standard food products, operating without valid licences and failing to meet food safety requirements.
According to the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), the highest penalties of Rs 2 lakh each were imposed on M/s Shree Chemfood Pvt Ltd, Gujarat, and M/s Jagarnath Salt Pvt Ltd, Gujarat.
Shree Chemfood was penalised for selling misbranded and sub-standard iodised salt, while Jagarnath Salt Pvt Ltd, identified as the manufacturer, was penalised in connection with the sale of misbranded and sub-standard Taza Shuddh Salt.
Dharwad Mishra Pedha and Food Processing Industry, Karnataka, was fined Rs 50,000 for selling loose Motichoor Laddoo.
A penalty of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on Shri Nitin Wadhwa, partner of M/s Dias Club, Gaum Vaddi, Anjuna, for selling food articles without a valid FSSAI State licence.
The DM also imposed a Rs 10,000 penalty on Smt Pooja Prajapati of M/s Ganesh Goa Sweet Corner, Merces, for selling sub-standard quality Mysore Pak.
The action was taken against the food business operators for violations relating to food quality, licensing and hygiene, the FDA said.
