PORVORIM: The North Goa District Road Safety Committee on Tuesday reviewed preparations for the rollout of the AI-enabled Traffic Camera and Signal System, which is scheduled to be activated from July 15, while discussing a series of measures aimed at improving road safety across the district.
The meeting was chaired by Additional Collector-I Gurudas Desai. Presentations were made on the State Road Safety Audit and the upcoming AI-based traffic monitoring system.
Among the key decisions taken, the committee resolved to conduct monthly reviews of pothole repairs by the respective PWD divisions and strengthen joint enforcement drives against drunken driving by the Directorate of Transport and the Traffic Police.
The committee also discussed creating public awareness on cashless treatment for road accident victims through empanelled hospitals, removing stray cattle with the support of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department, and monitoring the maintenance of reinforced earth (RE) walls of newly constructed flyovers.
It further decided to issue a notification for “No Parking” signage on approach roads to Goa Medical College (GMC), Bambolim, and verify compliance with “Don’t Drink and Drive” signboards installed by village panchayats and municipal councils.
The committee stressed the need for coordinated action among all departments and stakeholders to enhance road safety and reduce road accidents across North Goa.
