BICHOLIM: A 32-year-old labourer from Odisha died after allegedly falling from the second floor of an under-construction building in Sankhalim during the early hours of June 22.
According to Bicholim Police, information was received at around 6.54 am from the Community Health Centre (CHC), Sankhalim, regarding a patient who had been brought dead following a fall from a height.
PSI Amarnath Palni and police staff visited the hospital and identified the deceased as Ganesh Dalbehera (32), a resident of Jamadhia, Badasindhaba, in Gajapati district of Odisha.
During the inquiry, the deceased’s cousin, Bishikeshana Dalbehera, informed police that both were working as labourers at the construction site and had been sleeping on the second floor of the building. At around midnight, Ganesh reportedly woke up to attend nature’s call and walked towards an adjacent room that was still under construction.
Police said he allegedly slipped and fell from the second floor to the ground, a height of approximately 5.3 metres. Co-workers rushed to the spot after hearing the sound of the fall and found him lying on the ground.
The injured worker was immediately shifted to CHC Sankhalim by a 108 ambulance, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The body has been preserved at the GMC morgue, and arrangements are being made to conduct a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case and stated that no foul play is suspected at this stage. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Amarnath Palni of Bicholim Police Station.
