OLD GOA: Old Goa Police organised a public outreach and awareness programme on October 15 to educate students and the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse, cybercrime, road safety, and the protection of women and children.
The programme was held at Old Goa Residency and the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Old Goa, with a focus on strengthening police-public relations and promoting responsible behaviour among students and members of the public.
As part of the initiative, quiz and drawing competitions were organised for 70 school students from seven schools to raise awareness about drug abuse, cyber safety and the importance of building a drug-free society.
The activities also formed part of National Cyber Awareness Month, with competitions designed to educate students about cybercrime, online fraud, digital safety and the responsible use of online platforms.
Police personnel delivered awareness talks and conducted presentations, supported by short videos covering cybercrime prevention, narcotic drugs and traffic rules. The programme also addressed issues relating to women’s and children’s safety.
According to the police, approximately 100 students and tourists attended the awareness sessions, while the overall outreach initiative reached around 150 college students and tourists in addition to the participating school students.
The initiative aimed to encourage young people to recognise potential online threats, adopt safe digital practices and understand the importance of following traffic regulations. It also highlighted the dangers of substance abuse and the need for greater public awareness about personal safety.
Old Goa Police said their public outreach initiatives seek to strengthen police-public relations while educating citizens on a range of important issues, including fitness and nutrition, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), narcotic drugs under the Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative, cybercrime, traffic rules, child and women’s protection, and senior citizen safety.
The police reiterated their commitment to engaging with students, educational institutions and the wider community through awareness programmes aimed at promoting public safety, responsible citizenship and a drug-free society.
