New Delhi:
In the midst of a heated Delhi Assembly election, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has cast doubt on the viability and purpose of the INDIA alliance, suggesting it should be dissolved if its sole objective was to contest the recent Parliament elections.
As the Delhi polls witness a fierce three-cornered battle between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Congress, Abdullah’s comments highlight the lack of clarity and cohesion within the INDIA alliance. Despite the AAP and Congress having collaborated for the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year, their current campaign strategies in Delhi are marked by mutual criticism and accusations.
Abdullah, who is also the vice president of the National Conference, emphasized the need for a clear agenda and leadership within the INDIA alliance. “There has been no meeting of the INDIA alliance since the Lok Sabha elections, and therefore, there is no clarity about our leadership, agenda, or even our existence,” he stated. He further suggested that if the alliance was formed solely for the Parliament elections, it might be time to consider winding it up.
The tension between the AAP and Congress in Delhi has been escalating, with each party leveling serious allegations against the other. Congress leaders have accused the AAP of corruption and poor governance, while the AAP has retaliated by suggesting that the Congress is colluding with the BJP.
Abdullah’s remarks underscore the underlying tensions and lack of consistent engagement within the INDIA alliance, which he believes could lead to its eventual dissolution if not addressed promptly.
