SANGUEM: Political concerns in Sanguem came to the fore after a group of local residents and political workers raised questions over representation, reservation and recent decisions concerning the constituency.
The gathering reportedly turned tense as participants questioned the manner in which certain political decisions were being taken, with some seeking greater consultation with grassroots workers and local stakeholders.
Candidate selection also emerged as a key issue, with participants discussing the possible political impact of decisions taken by the BJP leadership. References to statements attributed to senior party leaders, including State BJP president Damu Naik, also featured in the discussions.
The developments come amid increased political activity in Sanguem, with local workers and citizens expressing concerns over community representation, development priorities and the constituency’s political direction ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai met the citizens and workers and heard their concerns. He said the issues raised would have to be placed before the party leadership for consideration.
Phal Dessai also clarified that he had no role in the selection of candidates, stating that the decision on the party’s candidate rests with the BJP leadership.
