ANJUNA: In a shocking incident on Diwali night, One person was killed and another injured after a LPG cylinder exploded at Anjuna on Monday evening.
The tragedy occurred at a tea stall near the flea market at Peddem Piquen, Anjuna at around 7:15 pm when the stall owner Reshma Uskaikar was performing Laxmi poojan. The police gave the name of the victim as Denson D’Souza, 40 while Uskaikar was injured and she had been admitted to the hospital. Due to explosion the stall caught fire.
The Mapusa Fire brigade received a phone call from control room Panaji informing that a fire occurred at Peddem-Piquem Anjuna Goa.
Accordingly visited the spot and found one tea stall/gadda had caught fire.
Fire brigade staff who visited the spot extinguished the fire, and 108 ambulances shifted the injured person, namely Denson D’Souza, aged about 40 yrs and a lady, namely Reshma Uskaikar, to the hospital.
An enquiry conducted with one Sachin Kalangutkar, who was present at the spot, revealed that the said gadda was run by Reshma Uskaikar, and today, during Laxmi poojan accidentally, the said fire broke out, and same resulted in a cylinder blast, and as a result, the above persons who were present at the spot have sustained injuries.
Further, the injured person Denson DSouza was declared brought dead at Asilo hospital.
The total loss caused approx. Rs. 80,000/-
