MARGAO: Congress leader Savio Coutinho stated that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited was hyped with tall claims of different types of “Kal’s”, but what we see is only “Amrit Kal” for fraudsters and scams. Mr. Coutinho made this charge against the government after lodging a complaint of a Victim who was duped with a job offer in ONGC at Betul. The victim girl was accompanied by other Congress members Lalan Parsekar and Loyola Rodrigues besides Mr. Coutinho.
All these recurring events of frauds are a serious indication how the state and the entire nation is suffering due to inadequate employment opportunities, which results into innocent unemployed youth falling into traps of fraudsters. While on the other hand fraudsters develop new ideas of scamming people.
Mr. Coutinho stated that while ONGC was all in news due to the Prime Minister’s visit during the Energy Week, some, some fraudsters found it appropriate to lure innocent unemployed youth with jobs in ONGC. Advertisements have been appearing in local newspapers through which Goan youth got enticed and ended up coughing up thousands of rupees into the fraudsters accounts.
One such victim Miss. Maclin Dias today lodged a complaint before the Superintendent of Police seeking investigation into the fraud. Miss. Dias in her complaint narrated how she got drawn to the advertisement in a local daily, and applied for a job as a Data Entry Operator, on 26th February 2024, following which she was asked to pay money at different stages.
Job Confirmation letter and Joining letter was also issued to her, with a very sound salary of 42500/- basic salary per month. As the fraudster kept asking her to deposit more and more money, she got suspicious and contacted Congress leader Mr. Savio Coutinho, who verified and confirmed that the recruitment process was fake.
Mr. Coutinho stated that he enquired about this issue and learnt that this was going on for nearly a month, with repeated insertion of advertisements; and demanded to know why the authorities were silent about this matter. If vide publicity was given about this fraud, many youth would have been saved from falling into the trap, he said.
Mr. Coutinho appealed to all the victims to come forward and lodge their complaints or contact him for assistance. He demanded for a thorough investigation into this matter, and compensation to the victims who lost money on account of the lethargy of the authorities.
