New Delhi: In a dazzling display of batting prowess, Ishan Kishan’s maiden IPL century for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has reignited discussions about his potential return to the Indian national team. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman’s unbeaten 106 off just 47 balls not only propelled SRH to a commanding 286/6 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) but also caught the attention of his childhood coach, Uttam Mazumdar.
Mazumdar, beaming with pride, watched the match with his family and expressed optimism about Kishan’s future prospects. “This innings could open the doors back to the Indian team,” he told ANI, highlighting the significance of the knock in light of upcoming international tournaments.
The coach praised Kishan’s calculated aggression, noting how the batsman skillfully balanced caution with his trademark explosive style. Mazumdar emphasized the importance of Kishan’s recent domestic performances in building his confidence, citing multiple fifties in intra-squad practice matches leading up to the IPL.
SRH’s decision to bat first after RR won the toss set the stage for Kishan’s heroics. The innings began with a brisk 45-run opening partnership, followed by Kishan’s pivotal 85-run stand with Travis Head. Supported by quick-fire contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen, Kishan’s century formed the backbone of SRH’s imposing total.
RR’s chase, despite a valiant 111-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel, fell short by 44 runs. The Royals finished at 242/6, unable to overcome SRH’s mammoth score.
As the dust settles on this high-scoring encounter, all eyes remain on Kishan, whose performance has not only earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award but potentially a second look from national selectors.
