CURCHOREM: The Opposition parties have blamed the ruling BJP for delaying the panchayat election process.
“There is a vast interference from BJP in the election process. The election process should have been done fairly and cleanly. The election commission should have been given a free hand to conduct the elections as per rules and guidelines,” said RGP leader from Curchorem Aditya Dessai further added that the Supreme court’s order on Panchayat elections is a clear indicator that the democratic process was earlier not followed.
“It was the Government’s responsibility to maintain the records of the OBC, SC-ST village-level data and their timely review,” he said.
He said the government’s negligence and interference have led to delays in Panchayat elections.
Further, Desai added that Revolutionary Goans would spend more time on the ground and connecting to more and more people for Panchayat elections.
“Panchayats have the power to stop illegal slums at the base level. If Panchayat acts responsibly, then another Administrative officer’s time can be used for productive work. By contesting Panchayat elections, RGP will try to handle the illegal slums issue at its base level,” said Desai.
James Fernandes, AAP leader from Curchorem, said the decision of Goa Govt. to postpone the Panchayat elections to November smacks of an ulterior motive of the Govt as the present mood of the electorate is against the BJP, and if they cannot boast of victory in the Panchayat elections the prospects at the 2024 general elections will be hit badly.
“The lame excuse of postponing the Panchayat elections because the Election commission of Goa has not adhered to the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court is an insult to the State Election Commission, which is an autonomous constitutional body,” he said.
The government’s move is against the spirit of the Goa Panchayati Raj Act, he added.
