MAPUSA: A man accused of burgling a bar in Panaji and stealing cash, liquor bottles and a mobile phone worth ₹35,300 has been arrested by Mapusa Police and will be brought to Panaji on a transfer warrant.
According to Panaji Police, the complaint was lodged by Uday Bhandari (25), a resident of Oitem, Taleigao. He alleged that the burglary took place at around 2 a.m. on July 6 at Neelam Bar, located opposite the Ferry Dock in Panaji.
Police said the accused first tampered with the CCTV camera installed outside the bar by changing its direction before breaking open the shutter hinge to gain entry into the premises. After entering the bar, the accused allegedly switched off the CCTV cameras installed inside.
The accused is alleged to have stolen ₹2,500 in cash, two bottles of Smirnoff Vodka (750 ml) worth ₹1,400, two bottles of Oaksmith Whisky (750 ml) worth ₹1,400, and a Samsung Note 10 Plus mobile phone worth ₹30,000, taking the total value of the stolen property to ₹35,300.
Panaji Police have registered a case under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused has been arrested at Mapusa Police Station, and arrangements are being made to secure his custody through a transfer warrant.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Suraj Madgaonkar of Panaji Police Station.
