PANAJI: In a sign of rising illegal gambling activity, Panaji Police registered four cases under the Goa Public Gambling Act within a 24-hour period, indicating a potential spike in Matka gambling operations across the city.
The cases were booked as part of a focused crackdown by the police, who have intensified vigilance in areas known for gambling activities.
Though the police have not yet released detailed information about the individuals involved or items seized, sources confirmed that action was taken based on specific intelligence inputs.
“The operations are part of our ongoing efforts to curb illegal gambling. We will continue to monitor and take strict action against those involved,” a senior police official said.
The sudden rise in cases has raised eyebrows among local residents and community leaders, who have called for stronger preventive measures and consistent enforcement.
Police have assured the public that surveillance and surprise checks will continue in the coming days to dismantle any networks promoting illegal Matka gambling in the city.
