PANAJI: The Chief Minister, Dr Pramod Sawant said that the trend is now changing where parents are evincing interest to enroll their children in Government schools.
He was speaking as Chief Guest at a function held at Directorate of Accounts, Kautilya Lekha Bhavan, where smart devices tablets were distributed to rural schools run by Government.
Calling it a pivotal moment for Goa’s education sector, Dr Sawant said that this initiative of Infosys Springboard Ltd to give tabs to schools in Goa will help equip students with tools to dream bigger and achieve more.
The Chief Minister said that this would help bridge the digital divide and help with digital skilling and empowering people. “This initiative is reaching out to an important section which is children in rural areas,” the Chief Minister said, adding that technology has become an important part of education.
Commending the initiative of giving tablets to schools, he said that the Infosys Springboard was giving high quality content across subjects, which would help strengthen understanding of academic subjects and supplement academic learning. He urged students to explore new career opportunities.
Secretary, Education, Prasad Lolayekar, IAS, said that the Chief Minister is interested in imparting skill education and this CSR initiative of Infosys Ltd of providing tabs and a certificate course curriculum will give more options to students to do courses in liberal arts, commerce etc and complete them digitally.
Lolayekar further asked representatives of Infosys Ltd to consider providing a skill lab on wheels for schools, just like they did in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Head and Chief Lead for Government Partnerships at Infosys Ltd., Santosh Ananthapura thanked the Chief Minister for his visionary leadership in education, which is an important sector.
He informed that the courses available on the tabs are aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and they were very happy to collaborate with the Directorate of Education.
