PANAJI: Customers with low and high tension connections will receive rebates of 0.5% and 0.25%, respectively, if they pay their electricity bills online. For the State of Goa and Union Territories (Electricity Supply Code) (Third Amendment) Regulations, 2024, JERC has notified the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission in this regard.
Customers can currently receive a 1.25% discount from the Goa energy department, but only if their bills are paid online seven days before the due date.
“We have not yet examined the latest notification to determine if the updated rebate will be effective for customers right away,” a representative stated. Customers can now anticipate receiving new power connections quickly because the JERC’s most recent communication includes a deadline for application clearance.
A client in a metro city should have a connection in three days, while consumers in urban municipal regions will need to wait seven days, per the notification that is applicable to Goa and other Union territories.
If the application is complete in every way, residents on remote islands should receive an energy connection within 30 days of the date it was submitted.
Prior to now, a JERC representative stated that there was no deadline for processing and clearing applications for electricity connections.
A ninety-day period for awarding extension works, or increasing transformer capacity, is another benefit that customers can expect.
When it is implemented, joint consumers—like apartment buildings and commercial users—who face obstacles in the form of delays should experience a great deal of relief.
