PANAJI: A 57-year-old woman sustained injuries after being hit by a car in a case of alleged rash and negligent driving reported in Panaji.
According to Panaji Police, the offence has been registered under Crime No. 76/2026 under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, based on a complaint filed by HC Pandurang Gawas.
The incident occurred on April 21 at around 1:10 pm near the Majestic Pride Casino junction at Ferry Point, Panaji. Police said the accused, identified as Sunil Baitha (34), a native of Bihar and currently residing in Margao, was driving a Toyota Tressor (GA-08-AB-0931) from Mandovi Hotel towards Panaji city.
While driving in a rash and negligent manner, the accused allegedly dashed against a pedestrian, Deepali Kerkar (57), a resident of Sada, Vasco, who was crossing the road on a zebra crossing at the time of the accident.
The victim sustained injuries in the collision and was provided medical assistance.
Panaji Police have registered the case, and further investigation is being carried out by HC Pandurang Gawas.
