PANAJI: The State government has informed that is has granted permission for felling of bare minimum of 400 trees to various mega infrastructure project.
“Every single tree is important. Continuous efforts are made to protect and conserve all of them. Utmost care is taken and due diligence is done before giving permission to fell 4A, any tree. Bare minimum numbers of 400 tree are recommended for felling for site ouble specific cases as per Goa Daman & Diu (Preservation of Trees) Act, 1984 & e; if so, Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, in case ot, the of private land and forest respectively,”said CM Sawant
He further said that these projects related to infrastructure development are of National importance and in large public interest.
“All these projects being implemented or under consideration by following due procedure and providing adequate safeguards to forest and Wildlife,” he added
Meanwhile, CM said that the holy Peepal/Vad (Banyan Tree) is outside the Airport’s jurisdiction and is under the possession of the Government.
“No tunnel access being planned by GMR from outside the said peepal tree,” he said
