PANAJI: Minister for Transport Mauvin Godinho said that there will be no tax exemption for taxi operators of Pernem.
“The taxi operators will not be given tax exemption; many new demands are going on coming from this. We cannot just give a tax exemption to operators from Pernem. It will be an injustice to others,” said Godinho.
He said that state government earned Rs 4 crore from Goa and why will government or for that matter GMR suffer losses.
Godinho said that whatever promises have been made to them will be delivered. The taxi operators will be given a counter at Mopa airport and also blue cab.
Godinho said they will be given blue cab which is similar to yellow and black taxis and there is no difference.
He said that yellow and black taxis are outdated and must be replaced by blue cabs at the new Manohar International Airport.
He said that the government is providing a free taxi scheme for the drivers so that they can start their businesses.
He said that some elements were trying to claim to be in taxi business and were misguiding the taxi operators from Pernem taluka.
Godinho said that the government has also decided to relax educational qualifications for Goan drivers seeking taxi badges. Now Class VIII pass drivers will be granted taxi badge to drive public service vehicles in the State.
