PANAJI: The Photo Journalists Association Goa (PJAG) is proud to announce a special felicitation ceremony on the occasion of World Photography Day, August 19th, 2023, at the PJAG Gallery, located Near Government Garage, Opposite Don Bosco School in Panaji. This event is being organized in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Goa.
The distinguished event will recognize the exceptional contributions of two remarkable individuals in the field of photography:
1. Barnabe Dias Sapeco is Hailing from Panaji. He is a veteran photojournalist with an illustrious career spanning over two decades. He has been associated with prestigious publications including Gomantak Times, Metro Times, Herald, Navhind Times, Navprabha, Times of India, India Today, and Goa Today since the year 2000. With extensive experience in the realm of photojournalism, Barnabe Sapeco has documented numerous significant events and stories. He has demonstrated incredible dedication, even in the face of adversity, having been assaulted and witnessed the damaging of his camera while covering a protest by Political Party activists. The incident, which made headlines in various Goan newspapers, exemplifies his commitment to journalistic integrity.
2. Tukaram Vaghu Fadte is a photography stalwart with over 30 years of professional experience, Tukaram Fadte hails from Sankhalim. He is the proud owner of ‘Sai Prasad Photostudio’ and has displayed a remarkable ability to adapt to evolving photographic technologies throughout his career. At 82 years of age, Tukaram Fadte continues to exhibit an insatiable curiosity for learning, ensuring he remains up-to-date with the latest advancements in photography.
The felicitation ceremony will be graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including, Art and Culture Minister Shri Govind Gaude, Honorable Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade,Director of Information and Publicity Shri Dipak Bandekar, Director of Art and Culture department Shri Sagun R Velip.
PJAG will also host an insightful photo exhibition featuring the works of 23 press photographers representing various newspaper organizations from the state. This exhibition, open to the public for two days from 10 am to 6 pm, promises to be a celebration of visual storytelling and journalistic excellence.
Additionally, PJAG will use this occasion to distribute prizes for a state-level photography contest that was organized for both school students and the general public.
