CANACONA: A routine outing turned tragic in South Goa’s Canacona after two young boys drowned while bathing in a river at Ozrem, Dhupemol on April 25.
The victims, identified as Dhruv Wadar (5) from Vasco and Rigved Naik (10) from Karwar, Karnataka, had reportedly entered the river for a bath when they slipped into deeper waters and drowned.
Police swung into action after receiving a PCR alert from Margao at around 1:09 pm. A team rushed to the spot, and with the help of local villagers, both children were retrieved from the water and immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC), Canacona. However, doctors declared them brought dead.
Initial inquiry points to accidental drowning. An inquest was conducted, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem at South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, where the cause of death was confirmed as asphyxia due to drowning.
After completing formalities, the bodies were handed over to the grieving families for last rites.
Further inquiry is being carried out by PSI Shivram Gawas of Canacona Police Station.
