PONDA: PMC, PWD, Sewerage Officials works on war footing to clear choked gutters, drains at Ponda Bus Stand since Saturday Evening. Following rain it exposed the unpreparedness of PMC for monsoon.
The PMC recent Election and code of conduct had also delayed monsoon work said the locals. The vegetable vendor at Ponda Bus Stand said they lost business as road was waterlogged due to rain as well as sewerage water.
Following water logging for three days the officials worked together and started digging road using JCB and there was culvert below road it was also dug using breaker. This took several hours.
vendors women sitting at roadside footpath alleged that it was not rain water but was a toilet and sewerage waste overflowing from gutters was accumulated and developed into Pond near petrol pum road. With Sewerage flowing infront of them they claimed they lost business.
The furious women vegetable vendors complained of stench and unbearable smell emanating from it and blamed it is due to toilet waste released into gutters.
The women said the incident of sewerage including human waste floating with sewerage waste came to light as gutters are choked. The Pondaitees too surprised to seen the water logging at old bus stand. The vendors claimed though it was rain yesterday it is not a rain water but firmly said sewage waste water.
PMC Chairperson Ritesh Naik said he he would find causes of choked gutter and take action against guilty.
Meanwhile the shop owners residing in building in area said that on 12 May they had complained to The Chief Officer,
drawing his attention towards non cleaning of Gutter in front of Vishwalaxmi Building (Kerkar Building) at Dada Vaidya Chawk from Desai Cloth Stores to Kanaka Sweet Mart.
The Gutter is full of dirty water and waste materials and gives a very strong unbearable bad smell, especially after six o’clock.
The pavers in the front of said Kerkar Building are broken at many places opp Desai Shop, Vishranti Bar, Sanman Hotel, Aparna Medical and Supriya Bakery.
At night many rats come out of gutter and enter the hotels and shops making
great loss to the shop owners therefore had urged Chief officer to look into the matter and order the concerned
persons to get the cleaning and requiring work done before the rainy season
