MORMUGAO: Police on Friday dismantled DJ sound systems installed on trucks preparing to participate in Ganesh idol immersion processions in the Mormugao subdivision, following directions prohibiting DJ music during visarjan.
Mormugao DySP SP Gurudas Kadam, along with police personnel, carried out the action at the site. The move led to tense moments after some locals objected to the removal of the sound systems, stating that they had already made advance payments for the DJ arrangements and requesting permission to use the systems during the procession.
Kadam maintained that the restrictions had been discussed during three meetings held with the Deputy Collector ahead of the visarjan arrangements. He said the decision to prohibit DJ systems had been communicated before the festival.
According to Kadam, DJ systems were nevertheless used during the previous 1.5-day visarjan processions. He attributed the earlier enforcement difficulties to a shortage of police personnel deployed for festival arrangements.
“This time, police personnel have been deployed in full force to ensure that DJ systems are not used during the visarjan processions,” Kadam said.
He said police would strictly enforce the directions issued for the immersion processions and would not permit DJ systems or loud music.
Kadam also warned that strict action would be taken against those found violating the restrictions. Police personnel have been deployed at strategic points along procession routes and at visarjan locations to monitor the movement and ensure compliance.
The enforcement comes as authorities step up arrangements to ensure that Ganesh immersion processions pass off peacefully while adhering to restrictions on loud music and DJ systems. Police said monitoring would continue and action would be taken wherever violations are detected.
