PANAJI: Navin Patel a shop owner from Colvale who was kidnapped by his ex-employee for ransom yesterday was rescued by the police from an abandoned building today morning.
Nishant Mogan, ex-employee of Patel and his accomplice Virender Kumar have been identified as the main accused.
Police informed that the accused approached Navin who is a plywood dealer, on the pretext of buying plywood from him.
They eventually tied him up and shifted him to an abandoned building.
Thereafter, the accused called up Navin’s wife and demanded ransom to the tune of Rs 1 crore.
The accused used a mobile stolen from Old Goa area to make the call for ransom. Police traced the accused based on the mobile location.
Police have nabbed five persons in the case.
Although all the five accused are presently staying in Goa, Virender Kumar is from Bihar ,Nishant Mogan is from Mangalore, Manjunath is resident of Karwar, Sujeet and Subhash are from Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
Further, the police department has suspended the Head constable at Old Goa police station for not registering case in the mobile theft matter. The stolen mobile was used to make the call for ransom by the accused.
