Porvorim: Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley High School recently hosted an engaging and insightful awareness session on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, commonly known as the POSH Act, for its staff members. The programme was facilitated by Ms. Jochele Correia, a student of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, and saw active participation from 40 staff members, including both teaching and non-teaching personnel.
The session aimed to educate attendees on the legal, emotional, and professional implications of sexual harassment in the workplace. Key topics discussed included the definition of unwelcome behaviour, the concept of quid pro quo harassment—where job-related benefits are linked to sexual favours—and the creation of hostile work environments due to inappropriate verbal or physical conduct.
Ms. Correia used relatable examples and real-life scenarios to highlight how such behaviours affect workplace culture and employee well-being. She also elaborated on other concerning acts such as voyeurism and stalking, underlining how these infringe upon individual dignity and safety at the workplace.
A significant portion of the session was dedicated to understanding the difference between friendly and inappropriate behaviour, helping staff members grasp the subjective nature of harassment and the importance of setting boundaries.
The programme further included updates on new provisions under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), ensuring the audience was informed of the latest developments in protective workplace legislation.
To enhance engagement, two powerful short films were screened, encouraging thoughtful discussion and reflection on everyday situations involving inappropriate conduct and the importance of timely reporting and redressal.
The interactive session fostered open dialogue, promoted awareness, and reinforced the school’s commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment for all staff members.
