BELGAUM/PANAJI: Investigators are exploring a possible Goa angle after the arrest of three individuals in Belagavi in connection with a heroin seizure that has raised suspicions of an interstate drug distribution network.
The operation was carried out by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Belagavi Police following information about suspected narcotics activity in the city. Acting on the lead, a police team conducted a raid and detained three local residents alleged to be involved in the sale of heroin.
During the operation, officers recovered over 47 grams of heroin along with a two-wheeler, mobile phones and cash. The seized items are collectively valued at more than ₹10 lakh. A criminal case has been registered at Khade Bazar Police Station.
Investigators said the focus has now shifted to identifying the origin of the narcotics and uncovering the larger network behind the supply. Preliminary findings reportedly suggest that the contraband may have been sourced from Mumbai, prompting police to examine routes and contacts extending beyond Karnataka.
As part of the probe, officials are analysing whether the supply chain had any operational links with Goa. Given the frequent movement of people and goods between Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka, law enforcement agencies are assessing whether the state was used as a transit corridor or distribution point.
Police sources indicated that communication records, travel patterns and financial transactions linked to the accused are being scrutinised to determine the extent of the network and identify additional suspects.
Authorities have also stepped up monitoring of routes connecting Belagavi with Goa and Maharashtra as investigators work to trace the movement of narcotics and establish the role of others who may be connected to the case.
The arrests were made during a raid led by CCB officials after intelligence inputs pointed to alleged drug transactions taking place in an open area of the city. The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not ruled out further action as more details emerge.
Senior officers have praised the team involved in the operation and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to combat organised drug trafficking across state boundaries.
The case has renewed attention on the challenge of narcotics movement in the region, with investigators now working to determine whether the suspected network had any direct or indirect links to Goa.
