Margao: In a serious revelation raising questions over intent and transparency, Madganvcho Awaaz & Youth Leader Prabhav Naik has alleged that the proposal by PWD Minister Digambar Kamat to construct a cafeteria and exhibition hall in the Margao Municipal Garden is driven by ulterior motives rather than genuine public interest.
Referring to an official note dated 28 November 2024 submitted by Digambar Kamat to the Chief Minister of Goa, Naik pointed out that the proposal explicitly seeks demolition of the existing structure and construction of a two-storey building comprising a cafeteria and an exhibition space.
Prabhav Naik strongly contended that this move appears to be part of a larger design to displace the long-standing and culturally significant Ganeshotsav celebrations from their traditional venue within the garden.
He further questioned why Digambar Kamat’s note makes no mention whatsoever of Ganeshotsav, despite its deep-rooted association with the garden. Prabhav Naik also raised concerns over the selective approach, asking why there was no comprehensive plan proposed for the overall renovation and upkeep of the garden, which has long been in need of attention.
Madganvcho Awaaz has already demanded that authorities immediately halt the tendering process for the proposed project in Margao Garden. The “Mhaje Madgao Mhaje Garden” campaign is witnessing an overwhelming response, with citizens coming forward in large numbers through video messages passionately urging authorities to protect and preserve the garden. Warning of strong public opposition, Prabhav Naik stated that the people of Margao will not remain silent if any attempt is made to undermine their heritage, cultural identity, and traditions for politically motivated agendas.
