VASCO: Preparations for the 127th Shree Damodar Bhajani Saptah commenced on Thursday with members of the Shree Damodar Bhajani Saptah Samiti offering traditional prayers at the Shri Damodar Saunsthan in Zambaulim.
The delegation was led by Samiti President Bharat Kolgaonkar, Saptah Central Committee President Prashant Joshi and Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, along with committee members and prominent citizens of Vasco. As part of the long-standing tradition, the members offered a coconut at the feet of Lord Damodar, seeking blessings for the smooth and successful conduct of the annual religious festival.
The sacred coconut will later be ceremoniously brought to the Shri Damodar Temple in Vasco, marking the formal beginning of the Bhajani Saptah celebrations. The ritual symbolises the spiritual bond between the Shri Damodar temples at Zambaulim and Vasco.
Speaking on the occasion, Samiti President Bharat Kolgaonkar said the committee is committed to organising a grand and well-managed festival while preserving its rich traditions. He added that prayers were offered for the health, prosperity and well-being of the people of Vasco and for the successful completion of the festival.
Samiti Secretary Santosh Khorjuvekar said the week-long religious festival attracts thousands of devotees from across Goa every year. He said elaborate arrangements are being made in coordination with the police, municipality and other government departments to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees.
Khorjuvekar added that meetings with the concerned authorities will be held in the coming days to finalise traffic management, crowd control and emergency response measures. He also said the darshan facility will remain open round the clock during the festival and appealed to devotees to cooperate with volunteers and follow safety guidelines to ensure a peaceful celebration.
