New Delhi: As Rajasthan Royals prepared for their IPL 2026 eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mullanpur, much of the attention centred around teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and the fearless approach that has rapidly made him one of the tournament’s standout performers.
Ahead of the knockout clash, the 15 year old spent an extended session in the nets unleashing powerful shots across the ground, repeatedly smashing deliveries with remarkable confidence and intensity. Observers at the stadium watched as balls crashed into barriers and stands during an aggressive batting display that reflected the youngster’s natural attacking instinct.
Despite the significance of the match, there appeared to be little visible tension around the venue. The atmosphere in Mullanpur remained unusually calm for an IPL playoff, with players focusing more on preparation and execution than the pressure attached to the occasion.
Sooryavanshi’s teammates were quick to praise his composure. Dasun Shanaka described the teenager as exceptionally calm and mature for his age, highlighting his professionalism both during practice and inside the dressing room. According to Shanaka, the youngster remains unaffected whether he scores heavily or fails, a trait considered rare even among senior players.
Another Rajasthan Royals player, Donovan Ferreira, also engaged in an intense practice battle with Sooryavanshi during the session. Even after dismissing the youngster with a short ball and celebrating animatedly, Ferreira soon found himself under attack again as Sooryavanshi resumed his aggressive strokeplay.
On the opposition side, much attention will also be on Travis Head, who enters the eliminator looking to rediscover consistency in crucial matches. Although he has produced several memorable performances in major international finals, his IPL playoff record last season was less convincing.
Head has also recently faced online abuse and threats on social media from sections of cricket fans, though Sunrisers Hyderabad assistant coach James Franklin said the Australian opener appeared focused and unaffected during training.
With explosive top orders on both sides and fierce competitiveness driving the contest, the eliminator promises to be less about handling pressure and more about which team can channel its intensity most effectively on the big stage.
