NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for the strictest possible action against those responsible for the NEET paper leak, stressing that preventing examination leaks is a national responsibility and urging the creation of a foolproof examination system to safeguard the future of students.
Addressing the NDA Parliamentary Party’s Mangal Milan meeting, the Prime Minister emphasised the need for collective efforts to strengthen the country’s examination process and ensure such incidents do not recur. He also appealed to NDA allies to remain united in supporting legislative business during the Monsoon Session and urged the Opposition to cooperate constructively in Parliament, stating that despite political differences, all Members of Parliament share a responsibility towards the nation’s future and the welfare of young people.
The remarks come amid continuing concerns over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, particularly the NEET paper leak. The medical entrance examination, which attracts more than two million candidates annually, was cancelled earlier this year following allegations that the question paper had been leaked before the test. A re examination was subsequently conducted to ensure that students were not disadvantaged.
The Prime Minister noted that the government acted swiftly after reports of the leak surfaced, leading to arrests and action against those allegedly involved. Authorities have also introduced additional measures to strengthen the examination process, including a public portal where suspicious claims, unauthorised content and fraudulent activities related to NEET can be reported.
The issue has also sparked protests by students and activists demanding greater accountability and reforms in the examination system. Demonstrations in the national capital coincided with the opening of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where Opposition members raised the NEET controversy and other issues, leading to disruptions in proceedings in both Houses.
The government has maintained that it is committed to protecting the integrity of national examinations and ensuring that deserving students receive a fair opportunity through a transparent and secure assessment process.
