CANACONA: A Public Interaction programme is held under ‘Mission Life (Life for Environment) at Gaondongrim (Canaocna) on Naquim and Groundwater Conservation.
Central Ground Water Board, an apex organization for groundwater under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India organized a one-day Public Interaction Programme on “NAQUIM & Ground Water Conservation” at Government Highschool Gaondongrem, Canacona Taluk, South Goa district on Saturday (07.10.2023).
Gaondongrem and Cotigao villages are taken up as NAQUIM 2.0 studies by CGWB during the current year 2023-24. As a part of this, the Interschool Poster competition and Quiz competition were organized among three high schools – Govt. Highschool Gaodongrem, Govt. High school Cotigao and Nirakar Education Society’s School, Tudal Gaodongrem.
In the interschool Poster competition on the theme “Water Conservation” around 75 students from the three schools participated.
An invocation song was presented by GHS Gaondongrim students at the inaugural function. The Public Interaction programme was inaugurated by Shri. Ramesh N. Gaonkar, DC/SDM, Sub-division Canacona and Guests of Honor Shri. Damodar R. Gaonkar, Headmaster, Government Highschool Gaodongrem by lighting traditional lamp.
CGWB, SWR, Bengaluru Scientist-D Rahul R. Shende, in his keynote address, briefed about the aims and objectives of the interaction program. He threw light upon the Mission Life and its importance in the sustainability of resources and protection of the environment. He recited the pledge of Mission Life and everyone present in the Programme took the pledge.
Damodar R. Gaonkar spoke about the importance of awareness programmes related to water conservation & environment in the initial academic stages so that students today, become better citizens tomorrow; and have an empathetic perspective towards nature & water resources.
Ramesh N. Gaonkar lauded the efforts of Officers from the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India who conducted the One-day Public Interaction Programme for inculcating the perspective towards Groundwater Conservation at the school level to create awareness on water conservation aspects in the young minds of children. He expressed gratitude towards his alma mater and appreciated the response from the students towards the programme.
An Interschool Quiz competition was conducted by Shri. Sushant S. Navarat, Scientist, CGWB, Belgaum and Shri. Satbir Singh Muddar, Administrative Officer, CGWB, Bengaluru.
Proposing a vote of thanks, Sc-D & Officer in Charge, CGWB, SUO, Belgaum Smt. Sangita P. Bhattacharjee expressed gratitude towards the untiring efforts of the Chief Guest- Ramesh N. Gaonkar and Guest of Honor, Damodar R. Gaonkar and for all the logistics support. She further extended gratitude to all the officers & officials of CGWB, all the teachers from the school and all those who helped directly & indirectly.
A total of 93 participants (55 female and 38 male) attended the interaction programme.
