New Delhi: Abhishek Sharma delivered a stunning performance in the Indian Premier League 2026, smashing a remarkable century that powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to a commanding victory over Delhi Capitals. Following the match, his candid remarks about playing style and team backing quickly gained widespread attention.
Opening alongside Travis Head, Sharma initially aimed to capitalise on the Powerplay. However, he revealed that the slow pitch forced a shift in approach, requiring patience before launching an aggressive assault. Despite the challenging conditions, he adapted seamlessly and went on to produce one of the standout innings of the season.
Sharma brought up his century in just 47 balls, finishing unbeaten on 135 from 68 deliveries. His innings, featuring a flurry of boundaries and towering sixes, propelled Hyderabad to a massive total of 242 for 2. The knock marked his second century in the tournament and further cemented his reputation as one of the most dangerous young batters in the league.
Reflecting on his approach, Sharma credited the support from the team’s leadership and management for allowing him to express himself freely. He highlighted that such backing has been crucial in building his confidence, adding that his natural style reflects the fearless approach often associated with players from Punjab.
The innings also saw him achieve notable milestones. It was his seventh Player of the Match award, the highest for an Indian player representing Hyderabad, surpassing Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Additionally, he moved to nine T20 centuries, equalling Virat Kohli among Indian batters.
Hyderabad captain Ishan Kishan praised Sharma’s innings and acknowledged Heinrich Klaasen for providing a strong finish. He emphasised the team’s flexible approach, focusing on adapting to match conditions rather than following rigid strategies.
Defending their imposing total, Hyderabad sealed a convincing 47-run win, with Eshan Malinga delivering an impressive four-wicket haul to complete a dominant all-round performance.
