Panaji, 30th Dec’2022: Purple Fest 2023, Celebrating Diversity will be organized from 6th to 8th January, 2023 at Entertainment Society of Goa, Panaji – Goa. The event will be jointly organized by State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Goa, in collaboration with Directorate of Social Welfare and Entertainment Society of Goa. The various sports related national events to be held at Purple Fest 2023 were announced today.
Purple Fest will be conducting Special Olympics during the festival across Panaji. The Olympics consist of All India Open Para Table Tennis Championship, Unified Beach Cricket, Blind Cricket and Purple I-Run Marathon.
“Sports is huge in our country. And with 2.5-5 % of disabled population, it is imperative to promote sports for this large community. The three days of sports will see events like— All India Open Para Table Tennis Championship, Unified Beach Cricket, Blind Cricket and Purple I-Run Marathon being held as the first-ever national level championships for PwDs hosted by the government of Goa,” says Mr. Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Goa.
Para-Table Tennis is one of the most unique sports on the Para Sports programme, wherein players are categorized into 10 classifications based on the impairment as follows: Para Table Tennis Players in classes 1-5 compete in a wheelchair, Para Table Tennis Players in classes 6-10 compete in a standing position.
Unified Beach Cricket is being introduced for the first time in India. Beach cricket is a relaxed variation of the game that can be played by anyone who wants to. Everyone is free to make up their own rules as they go, making it a great game for families and friends.
Blind Cricket is a version of the sport of cricket adapted for blind and partially sighted players. Blind cricket relies on the ‘sweep shot,’ which is commonly used to increase the chances of the bat hitting the ball.
Purple I-Run Goa Marathon is Goa’s First National Marathon for 21 types of disabilities. This marathon aims to promote Inclusiveness and Acceptability of the people with disabilities in our society. The people with disabilities will be running together with the normal runners in all age categories.

Unified Beach Cricket which will be played at Miramar Beach on 3rd January. There will be demonstration of the Baggo and Bocce game on 6th January at Inox. It’s a great feeling to have the Unified Beach Cricket, being introduced for the first time in India here at Purple Fest.,” says Victor R. Vaz, National Sports Director, Special Olympics Bharat and coordinator of Unified Beach Cricket.

All India Open Para Table Tennis Championship
- Players are categorized into 10 classifications based on the impairment as follows:
- Para Table Tennis Players in classes 1-5 compete in a wheelchair,
- Para Table Tennis Players in classes 6-10 compete in a standing position.
- Classification for non-classified players shall be held on 06th January 2023 from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm by official classifiers at SAG Campal.
- No reclassification shall be allowed.
- Championship shall be held on 07th January 2023 from 7.00 am onwards at SAG Campal.
Unified Beach Cricket
- Unified Beach Cricket at Miramar Beach at 9.00a.m on 3rd January’2023.
- Demonstration of Baggo and Bocce game on 6th January at Inox from 9.00a.m to 4.00p.m
- The team consists of 4 special athletes and 2 Patners (sux playing members in a team)
- The playing Area is 50mtrs x 50mtrs.
- Matches will be played at 6 overs per side.
- Each player will bowl one over and each batsman will face six deliveries.
- Only one batsman will bat at a time
- Game will be played for 30min.each with 2 minutes break between innings.
Blind Cricket
- Blind Cricket will be held in Gymkhana on 5th Jan and Dhabandodra on 07th and 08th Jan 2023 from 09:00am onwards.
- There will be six teams participating from Goa, Chhattisgarh, Pondicherry, Telangana, Maharashtra and Kerela. Dr Ketan Bhatikar, Medical Director GCA will be the coordinator for Blind cricket.
Purple I-Run Marathon
