PANAJI: PWD minister Nilesh Cabral said that his department needs more than 450 junior engineers.
“PWD is facing a shortage of 450 junior engineers.
Junior engineers have been promoted after 35 years but continue to work at their current post,” said Cabral.
Cabral said that it is difficult to run a department with a shortage of employees.
“Although we are managing with the existing staff, I know how difficult it is to work with less staff,” he reckoned.
Cabral informed that he will come out with a mechanism so that works across the state are maintained.
“How much can one staffer work? It becomes difficult and time-consuming. PWD engineers have to be physically present at the sites. How will one engineer manage these things,” he asked.
The PWD Minister also said the Chief Secretary is also the PWD secretary, adding that files sometimes may get delayed.
“I know how the work is currently going on in the public works department,” he maintained.
